The Bank of Canada was nationalized by the Mackenzie King government in 1938. King took the Keynesian message to heart and created interest-free money to help the country overcome the Depression, and the Bank of Canada still retains in its constitutional right to do so. In 2010, Canadians paid $165 million daily in interest charges on governmental debt of $519 billion — this is equivalent to $136 a week from a family of four. According to Richard Priestman and Connie Fogal, between 1939 and 1945 the Bank of Canada produced 62 percent or more of the national money supply interest-free. From 1945 to 1975 the Bank of Canada provided a significant proportion of capital for public needs — at a nominal rate of about one percent. A major source of low-cost capital to lend was the private Canadian banks that were obliged under Keynesian policies to hold statutory reserves interest-free in the Bank of Canada, which the public bank could then lend out for public works and benefits. Over many years this put over $120 billion in interest-free money at the disposal of the Canadian government. Inflation and speculative lending could be reined in by the Bank of Canada requiring the private banks to increase their statutory reserves to slow down credit expansion where necessary. Total federal debt in Canada was only $37 billion in 1975, and 22 percent was owed to the Bank of Canada. However, following the lead of Thatcher and Reagan, the Brian Mulroney government, which came to power in 1984, moved away from the statutory reserve system to so called “free markets” and the deregulation of the banking sector. Real long-term interest rates on Canadian government debt, which were 0.7 percent in 1980, escalated to 8.4 percent in 1984. After the policy shift, interest payable to the private banks on borrowing rose to levels from $5 billion to $8 billion a year on loans that had previously been virtually interest free. The use of the Bank of Canada to fund public projects has declined radically since. Interest rates on government debt rose to ranges of 6 to 18 percent in the 1980s, and the public debt soared to $408 billion in 1991 and then to $585 billion in 2000. Tru-doh...

Further AHS & AGLC Harassment of Outlaws Taphouse in Calgary - Liquor License Has Been Revoked - Protest Planned! When: Noon on Friday, March 12th Where: AGLC Office, 6715 8th Street NE, Calgary, Alberta

Please join us this Friday to protest at the Calgary AGLC office in support of Outlaws Taphouse and Bar, signs will be provided.

Yesterday Outlaws was forced to shut down and had their liquor license suspended. Outlaws has been targeted since the beginning of the pandemic by AHS, the police, and the AGLC which has, in fact, been targeting the owner since when the owner first purchased the bar. The AGLC took a year to grant the bar their liquor license and made unfounded accusations about her and her family, primarily due to the history of the bar from before the current owner. The pandemic has only made this worse to the point where the bar has received up to 15 AHS visits in 15 days.

Please join us in support of a local business that is strongly standing up against the lockdown and the government's edicts. Let's put an end to this egregious harassment and get Outlaws Taphouse and Bar reopened! Currently Rebel News and CTV news will be there covering the protest so we need as many freedom loving Albertans present as we can!

If you are able to join us at the protest on Friday please email us and let us know. We're looking for an idea on numbers and if we can organize carpooling. Also, let us know if you will come on your own, need a ride, or can carpool people from your area. ([email protected])

Join Us in Filing Human Rights Complaints Against Stores Denying Access for Mask Medical Exemptions

If you have a genuine medical exemption please join us in filing complaints with the Human Rights Commission. As many of you know more and more stores are now denying access or attempting to deny access to those of us who cannot wear a mask.

After speaking with a legal advisor, we are planning a mass action against these stores in the form of complaints to the Human Rights Commission claiming discrimination on the basis of a medical disability. If you have a genuine medical or psychological reason why you cannot wear a mask please contact our coordinator for this effort using the link below.

We are also seeking the names and addresses of stores across Alberta who are denying access, especially those who post signs or otherwise make their policy public. We are already aware of Community Health Foods in Calgary as well as Safeway stores across the province, where their PA announcement now baldly states 'no exception'.

It is time to push back and put these people in their place. Please note that this is a preparatory action. If we are successful in this the next step will be to seek a legal ruling that even being asked is harassment. We have a legal right to go about our daily business free of harassment and discrimination.

This Weekend's Calgary Demonstrations

Join us at the Courthouse this Sunday. Speakers this weekend will focus on the closure of gyms - the one service that helps people to stay healthy. Come on out in support. An unseasonably warm 6 degrees is forecasted.

Demonstrations Details

Moving forward, we are officially attending the demonstrations at the Courthouse on Sunday afternoons.

Why? Chiefly because all of the bylaws which have been put in place by the city are now superseded by provincial bylaws. This means the city is no longer a factor in this fight. When we defeat the province, the city councils will soon follow. The Courthouse is the symbolic seat of the province in Calgary.

Second, because the Saturday demonstrations are organized by Freedom Unity Alliance and while we applaud and promote their platform of fighting for our freedoms, their scope is quite broad. Our organization is narrowly focused on ending the lockdowns and the reasons why they are happening. Freedom4Canada, which is organizing the Sunday demonstrations has the same goal. With our freedoms under serious threat we believe that we cannot afford to be distracted by investing resources in anything but that fight, and that fight alone.

You are all free people (that is, after all, what we are fighting for) and of course can make your own decisions about where and when you choose to demonstrate. We simply wish to inform you that our signs and banner, as well as our organizers will be attending the Sunday demonstrations moving forward.

CovidSurveyAlberta.com

We launched this unbranded site on Sunday. At present we have received almost 6,000 responses. We had to upgrade our server to handle the traffic. Data so far shows overwhelmingly that Albertans are opposed to the lockdowns and do not consider Covid to be any more serious than a flu. Obviously this contradicts the government and media narrative. Less than 10% of respondents agree with the lockdowns. We will be releasing this data to the media and circulating it on social media once we receive 10 to 12,000 responses, which we consider to be a sufficient number that the media cannot discredit the data.
