He makes a good point I hadn't considered: Trudeau doesn't want to show the public a budget in the spring with the possibility of a snap election looming in the short term (remember, a budget being voted down calls an election, and Trudeau has a minority of votes).
That budget is going to be nightmarish given the ridiculous spending they've been doing. The amount of stuff that's going to have to be cut to start making up for CERB is going to be staggering. We've got the biggest deficit in the G20 right now, and the spring budget is where that's going to hit home for voters. That when the bill for CERB and the other pandemic expenditures is is going to come due, and that's when the abysmal tax revenue statement is going to shown to us. So better to trigger an election before having to table the spring budget than after.
Sadly I feel the general public does not care about the budget. Voters are more likely to say the crazy spending was necessary to deal with the virus. Everyone on this forum knows Trudeau spent recklessly but the average voter who isn't die hard conservative isn't going to care about the budget. They might care in 5-10 years when the lasting effects are felt, but short term, voters are pretty stupid when it comes to this stuff. Look at Trudeau winning in 2019 after spending way more than he promised in 2015, voters still voted him back in (granted less seats).

Indeed.
