This isn't even about saving the elderly, there are 100 different things already in existence already killing them at the same exact rate.
The only people dying of (with) Covid (of any age group) would have died from contracting another existing illness, disease, virus in conjunction with whatever preexisting condition they already have. We are 3/4's of way through 2020 and the stats are basically the same.
"Killing grandma and grandpa" is just a false play. They would have died anyway.
