To be fair, 2.8 million Americans dead per year is less than I thought. I used napkin math to arrive at 1.25-1.3% dead per year (1/average life expectancy is a very ad-hoc way to calculate the annual death rate because the population is not distributed evenly by age). But America's population probably does skew young due to all the immigration tbh. 236,997 dead with COVID is about 8.5% of America's total mortality. Yeah it sucks. But what are we supposed to sacrifice to save that extra 8.5%? It's like our sacrifices mean fuck all to the pro-lockdown crowd. There are people who have literally died due to lockdowns as well and will die due to lockdowns in the future. Social isolation has had a big negative impact on my mental health. I worry about the austerity that is probably going to come from racking up a huge national debt. I worry about the death of many small businesses and the high unemployment rate. I have seen numerous small businesses in my own community shutter. Some of these establishments I like to go to.
Not to mention that thanks to covid, deaths from flu, pneumonia, heart attacks, cancer and others besides have dropped! They should be thanking Trump because magically he somehow reduced those deaths....or maybe 94% of coronavirus deaths were actually from those other categories and it accounts for basically a statistical nothing burger
