Folks, teach your kids to kick and scream. Never go with a stranger willingly.
If it feels wrong, it probably is wrong. ALWAYS trust that instinct.
It's better be wrong and look stupid than it is to be wrong and end up dead.
And for adults, don't be the bystander who didn't act out of fear of being wrong and offending someone or looking stupid. The lady in this video courageously overcame the compulsion to not make waves, and she probably saved a child's life by intervening. MOST people will stand back and do nothing because the fear of being wrong and looking stupid is overwhelming.
For what, people not wanting to act? No, that's got nothing to do with social media. That's been a known part of the human condition since forever. It's called the bystander effect.
TL;DR, humans are a highly social species, and social species value group conformity above almost all else. When you're out in public, you're essentially among a group of strangers. And when something happens that requires action, most people reluctant to be the fist one to act because to do so is to break from the group and risk embarrassment if you're wrong. Once one person acts though, everyone else tends to follow.
Holy shit.
