I used to be a leftist. I was a big Rage Against the Machine fan in the early 2000s as a teenager. And I was downloading MP3s of their whole catalogue dating back to 1992 at the time.
Fast forward to 2020 and the left defer to politicians, defer to scientists. The left expects you to follow their religion. They expect you to take a knee for black lives matter. They expect you to allow black and indigenous criminals to victimize you and their own fucking communities with impunity. Whereas when I was coming of age, the appeal of the left to me was that I was an atheist (and still am) and don't like religious conservatives telling me what to do and how to live. But now leftists are telling us what to do and how to live.
I know some hippie leftists who supported Bernie fucking Sanders who are low-key anti-lockdown. But they are afraid to reveal their power level because the leftist mob tells them they are going to kill granma.
Yeah I saw myself as a leftist at one point because I saw defiance towards authority as being a leftist value. But then when the left is telling me that fucking my girlfriend was going to kill my dad, they lost the fucking plot. I was already alienated by the left with the woke SJW shit. But the lockdown is making me root for Trump and the Republicans for the first time ever. And my NDP-voting friend may excommunicate me forever after he ranted about Trump and I told him that I don't want Biden to win because he's going to lock down America and destroy the economy. And I'll vote PPC even though I don't like right-libertarianism. I'm more sympathetic to left-libertarianism. But self-described left-libertarians on OGFT want lockdowns. Hmm...
When I did that morals test, I scored highest on liberty but moderately high on empathy. That's where I differ from the left. I value liberty more than leftists and I'm in between leftists and conservatives/right-libertarians on the empathy scale. I would like to live in a libertarian society but feel that there should be some sort of safety net to ensure that housing and health care is affordable for the poor (and the heroin and meth addicts need to be in rehab. They are incapable of being functional even if you put them in subsidized housing. And people with severe mental illness need to be in like a half way house or institutionalized). The amount of self-sacrifice the left is expecting from us to lock ourselves down is like religious asceticism. My empathy has limits. I'm not willing to be celibate to flatten the curve. I don't want to be saddled with tremendous debt from lockdowns to save like 0.1% of the population. I don't think it's fair to expect small business people to lose their life savings, to have mass chronic unemployment, to screw over young students, to take away Halloween from children, take away Thanksgiving and Christmas, to save 0.1% of the population.
The irony with the left is that they say defund the police. But they want the police to go into your house and issue hefty fines for having people who don't live with you over as guests. And if you don't pay that fine? The government will seize your assets. And if you don't allow them to seize your assets, breaks into Stefan Molyneux YOU WILL BE SHOT! The left relies on the police to enforce their authoritarianism.
I am not one to defer to authority. But if Jacob Blake is beating the shit out of his ex-girlfriend and she calls the police, he needs to be detained. Cops have a very high chance of missing and hitting another target accidentally if they aim for the leg or hand. It's almost always someone who never fired a gun in their life who suggests shooting in the leg or hand.
And if you miss your target, the recoil from the pistol will buy the target some time to bum rush you and stab you with a knife or punch you in the face and take your weapon. If you miss and your gum jams, you are totally fucked. I don't see any leftists volunteering to become police officers and show us how it's done.
If you are going to use your gun at all, you have to aim for mass: the torso. And when you shoot at the torso, there is a chance that you're gonna die, paralyzed or be seriously fucked up.
If you don't want to be shot, don't fight with cops. Don't rush up to them with a knife. The best course of action is don't resist arrest. Plead the fifth. Don't incriminate yourself. Fighting with the cops is never going to end well. If you beat on your bitch, are we supposed to let you go because you're black? Don't black female lives matter too?
Rage Against the Machine has always been massively for communism and "affirmative racial justice."
Not to a small degree either. It's basically their entire schtick. They've been going around waving communist flags, while wearing shirts with communist icons, and singing about communism.
That "fuck you I won't do what you tell me" line refers to perceived racists and fascists and that the government and police forces are heavily infiltrated by klan members.
Which of course, was a serious theme in the rest of the media at the time. Rage Against the Machine was just as much of a corporate band as Backstreet Boys or N'Sync.
Say what you want about boy bands and teenie-pop but at least they don't pretend to be agents of social change; singing about uprisings in the name of "ending fascism" and the joys of communism while making millions.
90's left-wing "socially-conscious" bands were just as cringy as 80's left-wing socially conscious bands. Listen to a Rage album today if you don't believe me, it's an experience every bit as awkward as watching the "do they know it's Christmas" celebrity charity song video.
The 90s left is the same as today's left, their aim has always been "massive, overwhelming social control to save us from the bad people" and by "bad people" they've always defined that as those who engage in wrong-think, and disagree with their socially-reinforced opinions.
Especially Rage Against the Machine. It's literally the only thing they sing about.
RATM seems cringe to me now in retrospect. I just find it amusing that the left's anthem in 1992 was literally "Fuck You I Won't Do What You Tell me" to now being all in favor of fucking lockdowns in 2020. lmao. Does defiance of authority only apply to police officers and the military? You can defy cops and the military but you must obey the scientists and Democratic governors and mayors? lmao
There's literally no left-libertarian dude weed lmao "the government can't tell us what to do maaaaaan" voices to this lockdown. It's unreal. Anyone who is like that is low-key about their power level. And I was one of those type of dudes in 2000. I saw conservatives as judgy religious people who forced Christianity down our throat, who deferred too much to authority, who worshiped police and the military. But now it's the left that is deferring to authority. It's the right that is edgy now. I was happy to see that https://www.reddit.com/r/LockdownCriticalLeft/ actually exists. On r/onguardforthee and liberal twitter they demand to be locked down like DOGS. Except for a black cocks matter protest of course.
The funny thing is, scientists are not authority figures the left has made them out to be, with both covid and climate change. Science is based in questioning everything.
It's this religion of science, and it's based on incredibly flimsy footing: at least 50% of published medical science is wrong.
It's really sad to see people give up freedoms so easily. I can only imagine there are elderly churchgoers who were furious when the churches were closed. And they were right. They should have the choice to risk their lives to go to church if they felt like it. We all should.
My only hope is that there is a silent majority who, once a line is crossed, will stand up and fight. Who will say "this is ridiculous, and wrong, enough is enough."
The lockdown religion has actually turned me into a climate change skeptic for the first time in my life. Because I figured "if the scientists are clearly full of shit with their flawed epidemiological modelling and their total inability to estimate and quanitfy the human costs of lockdowns and if the scientists failed to predict the weather correctly today, what else are they wrong about? Maybe climate change is a fucking scam too!" Maybe the climate change modelling is also wrong.
If the elites were scared of climate change, they would stop shipping junk all around the world in giant tankers. They would stop shipping Florida tomatoes here at the same time we send tomatoes there. We would see a lot more "eat local, buy local" support.
Instead, we get another tax.
I actually have relevant degrees to dig into the climate modelling, but it's pretty complicated and I'm doing other things. In general, I don't trust climate modelling at all, and am not worried about climate change.
There are epidemiologists like Sunetra Gupta who argue against lockdowns and argue for natural herd immunity and shielding of the vulnerable as a strategy. But they are vilified by a number of vocal prominent scientists and so we don't get to hear about their expertise on mainstream media. Science has become politicized.
