If herd immunity doesn't work then neither will the vaccine. If that's the case the only way to end the pandemic is to drive it to extinction with lockdowns. But we've only once in the course of history driven a human infectious virus to extinction and that was through vaccination. Eliminating this virus through lockdowns is impossible because it's spread to developed nations who don't have the means to lockdown all their poor people. Without work they would starve to death. So it we can't eliminate it from the developed world so what will happen is we will eliminate it from Canada only to have it spread back.

At what point to we acknowledge that this is an unwinable war and everything we are doing is either counterproductive or futile.
