He's an honest leftist, which just makes him a naive idealist when it comes to the reality of a power structure. You get to be that way when you're a life long academic who never works in the real world.

Going far left just changes who the elite are, not any of the issues you'll have and disparity between groups. Or is someone going to tell me with a straight face that the soviet leaders weren't living in luxury while their people had nothing.
