In before an audit of the overpayments find they mostly went to "new canadians who didn't know any better" and marginalized or racialized people, who didn't know any better - and thus collecting these overpayments will be seen as racist. My prediction is the government will waive these debt's
The thing that you'll note about that announcement is that while it says that they'll only take the overpayment money back after the pandemic is over, they say nothing about stopping interest on the debt until the pandemic is over.
The CRA will always get their money. Canada will extract its taxes and the most insane thing a person could possibly do would be to take an overpayment and blow it.
Here's how the next few month go for people who wrongfully applied for the CERB or received overpayments. The ones who were are welfare or disability blew their money and are probably aren't going to survive their first winter on the streets.
As for the ones who were in a sound position yet took government payments wrongfully? They'll wait until they're forced to pay which will mean that the interest charges will have piled up and God help those that end up with their wages garnished.
Our government exists to extract wealth from its citizens, not increase it and I feel deeply sorry for anyone who blew a CERB overpayment or applied for that benefit when they didn't qualify.
If they give you benefits they can definitely claw some money back and the smaller the amount they claw back, the longer they claw them money back and the more interest charges are accrued.
The government can be quite heartless to people who are on benefits and nothing will ever change that.
Imagine paying back $12,000 that's running up interest charges at a rate of $50 a month. That's what people who wrongfully applied to CERB while on benefits are looking at for the foreseeable future.
So long as they receive benefits, they have money that can be garnished.
Edit: It actually finally loaded for me. It is not the link above.
Side note: I have noticed an enormous lag in the time from when I click a link to when it actually loads for me. I really noticed it yesterday. Anyone with enough technical prowess able to expound on what we should be looking for in regards to their sniffing our clicks and keypresses?<<<
I assure you the CERB parasites will be the first go-round of Great Reset Debt Forgiveness.
I've been saying this has been a preordained pressure point for recipients since its inception. He just made the working class refugees.

You're way off man. They can't garnish anything from parasites on social benefits.

That archived link is broken for me. Is this what it points to?
