"If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" is a philosophical thought experiment that raises questions regarding observation and perception. Can something exist without being perceived by consciousness?
I guess it could be considered a Koan, but I've heard this Thought Experiment from non-Buddhists too... I don't think it's fair to say that the Buddhists own that thought process...
