If you have a clean history and no criminal record like I do, RCMP won't bother to contact your references.
That is more or less my experience. It only took a month or so. The problem is now all the courses are closed, so like Gunner667 is sorta hinting at you need to basically bribe someone to give you a one-on-one 'course' in their living room.
