Also getting your gun licence in Canada does put you on the gov radar whereas these non firearm weapons do not. If you know someone with guns though go practice up with them. Even without your licence it’s good to be proficient with guns because if shit really hits the fan, getting a gun is less of an issue than knowing how to use a gun.
