Nowadays phone companies not only know to which cell tower you're connected to, they also know the current signal strength of your device. They don't have to triangulate shit like you see in movies from the early 2000s. It's just one click to them to get your location history.
Doesn't matter. Phone companies can easily acquire your location without GPS turned on your phone.
