I had to go to the ER earlier this week (not whuflu related) there was about 15-20 people in the waiting area for the duration of my visit, probably 10 at its slowest;I was there roughly 6 hours. No one appeared symptomatic and majority of patients had visible bandages, sprains or temporary casts. Majority of people in there were clearly not of Canadian descent which was made clear by the nurses stumbling over their names. Certainly wasn't packed or swamped, just your run of the mill shitshow in the GTA
While hospitals arent overflowing or even at capacity (can search hallway medicine canada hospitals and capacity and set date to anything pre-covid and see routinely over 100% capacity), there is a reason many hospitals are 'empty' - the current policy is to accept outpatients appointments and they either call or give you a time to come back unless you are in need of immediate assistance. My mother needed to go in for diabetes related issues and this was the procedure - we had to go home and wait 3 or 4 hours and go back after registering. This gives the impression the outpatients area is empty. Additionally, fewer people allowed in and visiting is limited in many areas.
This is not to make excuses or justify or validate the lies they are pushing. Just some devils advocate for why they appear empty or simply walking in with a cellphone to see empty lobby or parking lots arent automatically proof of an empty hospital.
But those of us who disagree with what is happening politically think they should be overcapacity. Doctors should be working 16-hour days. Patients should be getting triaged in the parking lot. If we are in the worst pandemic of human-kind (we're not) it should look like an episode of MASH. There should be ambulance school-buses & helicopters full of patients that show up at 3am and air-raid sirens waking the doctors out of bed.
Even Trump claiming that 'not one single person who needed a ventilator didn't get one....' That is fucking ridiculous. If you lived to 99-years-old it is your time to die. You should be left to die in the fucking schoolbus, not put on a fucking ventilator only to die two-weeks later.

I think everybody sorta understands that.
