Carl Heneghan, Professor of Evidence Based Medicine at Oxford University’s Nuffield Department of Primary Care, has expressed scepticism over the 70 per cent figure.

“I’ve been doing this job for 25 years and I can tell you can’t establish a quantifiable number in such a short time frame,” Heneghan said. “Every expert is saying it’s too early to draw such an inference,” the professor added. “I would want to have very clear evidence rather than ‘we think it’s more transmissible’ so we can see if it is or not,” Heneghan continued.

“They are fitting the data to the evidence. They see cases rising and they are looking for evidence to explain it,” Heneghan declared.

The ‘mutant strain’ has been circulating since September, according to the government, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson using it to justify literally cancelling Christmas. Professor Heneghan emphasised that if this strain really is that much more contagious “we should be locking down the whole country”.

The data the government has on the ‘new strain’ off COVID comes from analysis by advisory body The New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group (Nervtag). No one has seen the data, with the Prime Minster noting it is “early data, “subject to review” but “It’s the best we have at the moment.”

It's literally a lie. One group claims it, refuses to show the data and its used to lockdown the country and as proof. If this was some new highly contagious strain, the data would show it. There is literally nothing happening that could reflect some super mutant strain despite the fact it has been around since september. England is using a tier system for lockdowns like Ontario colour system. They do a review for moving up and down and they announced this new strain on the night before the tier review to justify the upgrade to stricter tier and cancel Christmas and so on. They knew about it for months, as stated by the PM. They only announce it and make a big deal of it here. Also hard Brexit and other related deadlines and so on being fucked with. It's completely political. This is also a coronavirus. They mutate all the time. There are literally thousands of covid-19 strains right now. Its complete horseshit lies for fear mongering and draconian lockdowns and government control. If this was drastically different, the UK numbers would be off the charts or, at the very least, near the original first wave of data. It's still barely a blip on the cases and hospitalizations and so on and has been known since September. Its just a random strain with no significant differences. Its being used as a political weapon.
