I think ultimately the goal is to make people trust media. “Look here is a deep fake and you know it’s fake cause we told you, and here is a real one and you know it’s real because we told you, if you see a video anywhere else except for here, then you can’t trust it’s legitimacy.”
This isn’t the first time the media talks about deep fakes and the goal is to convince people that they are the only ones with real news.
They're priming people to be overconfident in their ability to discern real from fake, especially if it originates from a mainstream broadcaster.
