No. Identifying as a political stripe is the wrong way to go about figuring out the world.
"Identifying" as a conservative (or a liberal or whatever) is putting the cart before the horse. People who do that tend to adopt beliefs because they think that's what their stipe demands of them (i.e. I'm a conservative therefore I must oppose pot legalization) which is not rational. Those are not reasoned beliefs, that's you confirming to someone else's beliefs in exchange for belonging. It's ideological zombieism.
This is also not the way to campaign. Politics is downstream from culture, not the other way around. You don't win elections by converting people into conservatives (or liberals or whatever). It doesn't work like that in the real world. You win elections by convincing the most people that your platform is the one that most closely matches their existing beliefs. In other words, you move to capture the voter's wants, you don't try to convince the voters to change their wants to be in line with your planform. That's stupid. It can't be done.
