Legal insurance will do exactly squat for anybody that shoots a criminal in Canada. I'm not a lawyer. But you're not allowed to defend property (you have no property rights in Canada) and in theory you have a right to self-defence, but they will nail your ass to a cross if you exercise it. The legal system will find a way to fuck you over, for one thing they hate more than a criminal, it's a "vigilante".

The way some people see it, I've been told, is that if you truly come to a point where your life and the life of your family members are in danger, then act your conscience and be ready to live with the consequences. Unfortunately, through no fault of their own, some people end up in the wrong place at the wrong time and get fucked over.
