The downfall of the news is one of the greatest frustrations of my life. I wish we could have a media that informed us.
I know that Conservatives are all about free market, but ever since the Telecommunications act of 1996 the free market is what we've had in the U.S. media and this is what it has brought us. A media that cares more about making money than it does about the facts.

Why do you think the New York Times mentions racism so much? It's because they know their readers will react to it, they'll buy that newspaper or click that link and the morality of what they're doing be damned. People will click because it feels good to hate on your enemies, to hate the other side instead of trying to have a dialogue with them. Of course the Times have an agenda as well, but hey if they can make money AND push their agenda so much the better for them. Same with MSNBC, same with Fox News, and, yes, same with my beloved CBC.
The only place you can find good, actual news anymore is in the small independent media, and even then finding ones that aren't just telling you what you want to hear is like finding a few needles in a massive haystack. Which is why I'm such a huge fan of Jimmy Dore. You may hate what Jimmy stands for, but he gives it to both sides when they deserve it.
I think that this scene from The Newsroom perfectly encapsulates what we're up against.
