I personally don't believe this election was stolen from the President, though I fully support his right to contest the results by every legal means necessary.
To me, the MUCH bigger issue in the U.S. is how terribly broken and corrupt their election system is.
1 Federal elections should be run by a federal agency, not by the states.
2 NO election should be run by partisan people. In the U.S. elections are run by the Secretaries of State of the various states, all of whom are partisan politicians elected by the people. Even if they're the most honest person on the planet even the APPEARANCE of bias is enough to cast doubt among the electorate.
3 Gerrymandering. Need I say more?
I imagine you guys probably hate Elections Canada because they're part of the "Guv'ment" but I've worked an election as a Deputy Returning Officer and I can tell you first hand we have a completely fair electoral system.
*Here's my experience as to what happened when the polls closed.
All of us workers got together at a big table and took the ballot boxes and placed them on the table. Scrutineers for each candidate were allowed to view the counting if they wanted (No one did in my case, but they could have if they wanted.)
One by one I took a ballot out of the box, I then read it and announced what I believe it said. I then held it up for everyone at the table to see and asked if they agreed with me. When everyone did I put the ballot in an envelope and continued the process.
Once all the ballots were counted and recorded the envelope was sealed in front of everyone with a tamper proof seal, so that if anyone opened it to tamper with them later it would be obvious.
I then took the ballots and the voting equipment (the ballot box, etc) to the returning office in my car and presented them to the office.
I've never been involved in a recount but I know we have judicial recounts in canada, so if there's any dispute it's done with all parties involved by a judge.*
If any of you doubt any of this I suggest you work as an election worker next election, you get paid too so it's not even a volunteer thing.
There's definitely some hinky shit that happened (remember the vote spikes, that shit doesn't happen naturally), but I don't think that anything that happened on election night is responsible for shifting the result enough that it would have made a difference. What did make a difference is all the other unethical shit like ballot harvesting that is impossible to detect unless you catch people in the act.
In Canada it isn't the election system that's corrupted, it's the press that's compromised. People will vote based on the information that is given to them, and the LPC has control over those sources and soon they'll have control over social media as well.
