Balancing the budget would be so unpopular among the gimme crowd that it is virtually impossible to enact, let alone get elected on. People are just too fucking stupid to understand that 'government money' is simply their own money being borrowed from future taxpayers.

Not to mention the cuts needed just to 'balance' the budget. We would likely have to deport several thousand 'refugees' from our gimme system, considering our tax base has eroded like the coast of Newfoundland. Cons dont have the stomach for that.
