I didn't watch as much back then, mostly because my parents had control of the TV and they preferred to watch movies and whatnot.

That said, the Simpsons was a weekly event in our living room back in the early 90's. We were hooked from the first season. Sadly, it has been terrible for probably 20 years as well.
