Really, Canadian butter is becoming a joke. And not just the joke price. The dairy mafia is out of control and it’s long past due the cartel was smashed into a million pieces.
But no no, Justine Trutard has to carry on sucking he dairy industries cock for their votes. Screw the millions of struggling Canadian Citizens and their grocery bill.
A pound of crappy butter costing 4, 5, 6 bucks, and the better organic or import stuff costing 7, 8, $9 for HALF a pound is clown world. I refuse to buy butter until it goes on sale for $3- $3.50 a lb or less- and at that point will buy 40lbs and freeze it.
Want really nice imported French or Guernsey butter? Good luck finding it due to import limits but when you do, well that’s a 298% fine when it lands. Sorry... “tariff”. Similar ipso facto fines exist for cheese, eggs, milk. It wouldn’t be so laughable if Canadian cheese was actually any good, most of it is tasteless, macro produced junk.
Even the 2 or more year aged “premium” old cheddar is crap compared to the aged European cheddars.
Next time you’re at the supermarket, play the fun game of how high a price you can find for import cheese. The packets are usually slivers, because a decent amount would be a mortgage payment.
My record is spotting a premium mould cheese from France at $85.00 a kilo at Safeway. Cheese inflation has got so absurd that even when it’s on sale or a special it’s still unaffordable. I only will buy it when I see it on sale at $10 a kg or less. But now due to the inflation that Trudeau hides, on “sale” cheese is 11, 12, $13 a kg.
In the Uk you can buy ‘budget’ cheese for about $6 a Kg With more taste than a 5 yr aged cheddar here.
Quality? By what standard? It should read that we've given 1.75 billion to the industry to ensure that quality dairy products from other countries are given a competitive disadvantage. If Canada truly had quality dairy products, they wouldn't NEED to be subsidized that way: people would simply choose them.
By the way: the fact that the butter won't melt may mean that the palm oil is hydrogenated which makes it basically like a margarine. I'm not a chemistry expert but if it is hydrogenated that's not a good thing.
