To anyone downvoting this, you don't have to like reality but that doesn't change it. For whatever reason people like the CBC even if they don't personally watch any of it's content.

I'm not sold on the idea that it's political suicide to want to defund it though. Even if the idea is opposed by 80% of Canadians I doubt it's an issue that very many feel strongly enough about to move votes. It's still probably a net negative position to have though.
