He told them to peacefully protest but some conspiracy nuts threw a riot instead. It undermined all legitimacy to the election fraud dispute causing the few allies Trump had to back away from their promises to present what evidence they had. It also undermined the legitimacy of all right wing populist movements and fueled a security state power grab.

Trump has his problems but refusing to help the rioters isn't one of them.
