I'm going to try to start making more posts and comments that not only spread information such as this, but also what we can do about it.
Here's what I'm doing about this Spotify nonsense. Spotify almost always streams music at a max bitrate of 160 kbps. On all my Spotify playlists, I have just under 1,500 songs. 1,500 songs total about 6,300 MBs. Even a slow internet download speed of 7 Mbps can handle 6,300 MB in about 2 hours. SD cards are so damn cheap now that you can grab a 64 GB card for 15 bucks. So for all of a $15 dollar SD card and a few hours of downloading, I have cut ties with Spotify forever. After 1.5 months of not paying Spotify $9.99, I've already recouped the cost of the SD card. Not to mention your options when using Spotify are 1) only have access to your songs when you have access to wifi or cell service, which Spotify then uses your bandwidth to stream or 2) have 100% access to your songs, but Spotify uses your bandwidth to download the song and uses your phone's storage to store the downloaded songs. Where's the advantage over just storing them on an SD card?
I've also done the exact same thing with TV shows and movies. Once Disney fired Gina Carano, it took me all of 8 minutes to cancel Disney+ and download the entire Mandalorian series. I have an 8 TB hard drive that can hold almost 4,000 hours of TV and movies. I don't watch a ton of TV and movies, but even if you watched 2 hours a day every single day, it would take you over 5 and a half years to watch all the TV and movies you can put on an 8 TB hard drive.
These fuckers think it's 2003 still and think internet speeds are still 10 KBps and hard drives are 16 GB and that I pay for Spotify, Netflix, etc. because I have no other option. I paid for them because I think it's the right thing to do to pay for services you use. But once they threw in with the wokeness and started launching attacks on myself and others like me... Ya, fuck that. Back to downloading for me.
