I posted last week about the rise in heroin addicted scammers committing crimes in rural Caledon. https://communities.win/c/OmegaCanada/p/12hl0Z9ESB/south-asian-brampton-crime-creep/
These thieves have done over $100k in damage breaking into locked community mail boxes this year alone.
These four were caught since my last post. This problem is getting out of hand and the media isn’t touching it. This has now become a weekly occurrence. At least once a week now community mail boxes are ransacked and confidential documents are stolen. These thefts can ruin innocent people financially. We have quickly turned into a low trust society where mail is not even safe in a locked box where only a few years ago it was left out unlocked in mailboxes.
On March 19, 2021, officers from the Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a theft investigation at a Bolton hotel. The initial result of the investigation resulted in four arrests for drug-related charges.
With the assistance of the Caledon Community Street Crime Unit, a judicial authorization was granted to search a hotel room. The following items were seized:
• Multiple stolen cheques worth hundreds of thousands of dollars;
• Documents with personal information (book of ID’s containing personal identification);
• Wireless printer, surgical tools, and other items used for forging cheques; and
• Suspected stolen property
As a result of the police investigation, Gurdeep BAINS, 45, of Brampton was charged with:
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000;
