A spike in deaths happened after January 2021 and onward in the US (after Vaccinations began) and I'm guessing it is similar in Canada.
The increase in 2020 compared to 2019 is the same delta (change) as the increase in 2015 compared to 2014.
Basically, completely within normal variation in an aging population.
And yes, the 2021 numbers would be expected be higher.
