TL;DR Our justice system is a joke and violent criminals know it. Ahmed received a slap on the wrist for trying to beat a women to death and DNA evidence isn’t enough to link him to his bank robberies.

Nouradine Ahmed immigrated from Ethiopia at a young age with family and has been a violent career criminal since his teens. The court system has failed time after time to keep the public safe from Ahmed, while giving him light sentences and granting conviction appeals.

From a 2014 assault case:

After splitting her head open with a blow from his fist Mr. Ahmed placed his hand over her Ms. Hunkin’s mouth and while banging her head against the wall told her, “You will die bitch.”

For his age, Mr. Ahmed’s criminal record is extensive. He has on his sheet six adult convictions, including four convictions for robbery, triggering mandatory minimum sentence. Seven convictions as a youth, and other offences for which he has been convicted.

In 2015 he was convicted of a bank robbery but had the conviction successfully appealed due to not enough evidence linking him to the crime. Even though there was DNA evidence of his linking him to the scene:

The trial judge, who saw the witnesses and was in the best position to assess their evidence, found that the only evidence identifying the robber was the DNA evidence. In any event, in our view, the generic nature of the evidence relied on by the Crown is insufficient to support a conclusion that the appellant’s DNA was deposited on the plastic bag during the robbery. As appellant’s counsel pointed out, plastic shopping bags are commonplace, portable, disposable and reusable. In the light of these factors, and because of the generic nature of the eyewitness descriptions relied on by the Crown, the eyewitness evidence simply does not go far enough to be capable of supporting an inference that the appellant deposited his DNA on the shopping bag during the bank robbery. [8] Based on these reasons, we concluded that the verdict was unreasonable. We therefore allowed the appeal, set aside the conviction and entered an acquittal on the robbery charge.
