It's really, really hard for people to understand. Not only because they don't have that capacity themselves, but because all the media, movies, etc. manipulate them in to thinking we live in a world where people are extremely compassionate and just making hard decisions. They intentionally keep them weak and naive.

And sociopaths not only don't care about your suffering, they delight in it. When they lie to you and manipulate you, they delight in doing so. They consider it your fault for being dumb enough not to protect yourself against them. Because they have no capacity to understand that normal people have feelings of guilt from doing bad things to others. They fundamentally do not understand the concept of feeling bad for manipulating and hurting other people. It's a really hard thing for people to wrap their heads around.

I've begun to realize that there are actually a great deal more sociopaths in the world than even I thought.
