imagine for a week our phones and internet went down. What then? This is just a day so far. We rely on tech to much with no redundancy or fault tolerance. #WalkingOnThePrecipice

I'd love to see how attempted lockdowns would have gone if they didn't have the bread and circuses available to placate the populace.
Also, you won't have to imagine that scenario for long, with the kind of population and workforce replacement happening now, how long do you think our infrastructure will hold up?
It's mostly the legacy industries that have little redundancy in place. Except landlines, they build those to survive nuclear war.
When my cellphone dies eventually I am digging out the roatary phone and using that. More and more I can see that the cellphones are just part of the big mouse trap.
VoIP, why does the line matter at all? If you don't take your phone out of the house then surely you don't need a nuclear proof phone line at home. Most emergency's don't happen at home I'd say.
Teleco's have been using hybrid copper-fiber since the late 70's, and still maintained a rock solid network.
Rogers just cheeped out at every corner.
I would love it. I am ready for it.
Well your bill is probably the same, I just leave mine at home when I don't want it but let's face it if you get in a car accident you want your phone there.
There is a middle ground,
I remember when the power went out for a full weekend, in the summer about 20 years ago now. You could see the stars in the city, no light pollution. It was fucking awesome, this was before the internet was even a big deal. Everyone was outside having street bbqs because otherwise I guess shit would have spoiled.
