The guy posting the CP kept creating new accounts when he was banned. Unless you ban VPNs and TOR on the site, you can't stop that from happening unfortunately. It becomes a game of whack a mole at that point when the offender keeps creating new accounts with new IPs and burner email addresses. But then if you ban VPNs and TOR, you can kiss your free speech goodbye as you will be constantly monitored by Big Daddy Government. There are trade-offs between wanting stricter regulation and liberty.
It's amusing to see conservatives cry for big daddy government to protect the kids. But then whine when big daddy government gives their kid a ticket for playing on a playground. Don't you get it? You get the big government you asked for. This is why libertarianism makes more sense than conservatism for me. "Stop resisting arrest!" "Officer why are you beating my ass for attending church?"
The other option is tying accounts to phone numbers, but not many people want to do that, especially on reddit, where throwaways and novelty accounts are common.
Tying accounts to cell phone numbers also violates privacy. I don't want the government to be spying on me. When a lot of the stuff I post online is critical of our government.
Parents should be keeping a close eye on their children's activity. Sixteen year old girls who don't want to be unknowingly recorded against their will by their then-bf should think twice before they do thot shit. We have become a society that turns to Big Daddy Government to solve our problems and now we have a society that forces people on house arrest for a virus with a 99.5%+ survival rate...
As someone whose been involved in crypto-currency for 5 years, I've seen people make the same "will somebody please think of the children!" arguments to ban crypto-currency as well... "Bitcoin is used by child predators and money launderers!"
