Any of the Japanese ones are contrived and no rational person is offended by it. "Nippon Jin" is what they call themselves, and we in the English-speaking world call them "Japanese", both of which have many syllables, so the soldiers shortened them. "Yank" is more offensive, yet everyone uses that, because it too is not actually offensive.
