Is it true that the Canadian government suspended elections indefinitely? It sounds like Canada became a dictatorship overnight and no one is talking about it.

Yes and no. Turns out the motion was non-binding, but we won't know for sure until 2024, when the next election should be by law. If they can "keep the pandemic going" until then, they might try to pull a fast one.
It was the opposition who tabled this motion. Why would the other parties want to "keep the pandemic going" and deny themselves future election opportunities?
That makes no sense.
This was just a statement put forth by the opposition calling Trudeau "irresponsible" for trying to call an election in the middle of the pandemic.

No. Nothing was "suspended". Trudeau has been trying to get an early election triggered, so the opposition tabled a motion calling that "irresponsible". That's all that happened here.
Unfortunately, people who don't understand parliamentary politics chose to interpret this as a suspension of elections and have been REEEEing irrationally about it ever since. Elections aren't suspended in any way shape or form.
Thank you. I think I understand. I will have to study parliamentary politics. What with the lock-downs and other stuff, I was afraid we were going to have to run an under ground railroad and smuggle our Canadian family into Mexico. JK... only slightly.
I'm sure elections will resume at a time favouring the conservatives...
Thank you
