I can't find any back-up for this claim. Back in his Greenpeace days he and some others were charged with mischief for unrolling a banner from the CN Tower and it looks like he might have paid a fine, although the article that seems to say that is behind a paywall.

Anybody got anything else? Or is it one of those "The fact that there's no proof is proof" things?
