The classy woman theStar has pictured in the article with the chest tattoo is Renee Korchinski Beals, sister to the Regis Korchinski who fell from her balcony while trying to escape Toronto police last summer. Renee and her family accused the “racist” police of throwing her sister from the balcony, which sparked protests and raised more than $600K in gofundme donations.
They should not be held up by theStar as an example of victims of systemic racism, police brutality and a broken system. Not because they are lying cop hating thugs but because the solution to this problem would not have applied in their case. Their late sister was chasing family members with a knife, automatically that disqualifies social workers from responding to this incident.
These are the people changing how police respond to 911 calls:
Renee Korchinski Beals, 27, of Toronto:
Possession of a Firearm knowing its Possession is Unauthorized CC 92(1)
Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm CC 95(1)
Possession of Controlled Substance (cocaine) for the Purpose of Trafficking CDSA 5(2)
Possession of Controlled Substance (fentanyl) for the Purpose of Trafficking CDSA 5(2)
Possession of Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking CDSA 4(1)
Possession of Proceeds of Crime CC 354 (1)
Tampering with Serial Number CC 108(1)(b)
Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm CC 91(1)
Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle CC Sec 94(1)
I bet she is using some of that scammed $600k to pay a lawyer to keep her out of jail.
The brother was charged with armed home invasion as well. The uncle is a crack dealer charged with murder. A model family by leftist standards, right up there with George Floyd.
Here is a list of armed mentally ill individuals from the GTA who died as a result of a police interaction. In each case the public and family blamed police and said social workers should have responded instead.
The majority of incidences don’t end in death but you don’t hear about them. These incidences listed are not good examples of why to replace police with social workers.l, but for some reason this is who the left rallies behind.
Andrew Loku: armed with a hammer. Sparked the BLM Toronto movement against police.
Ejaz Choudry: armed with two kitchen knives. The family said they asked for a social worker instead of police. Called police racist murderers and incited violent protests.
Jamal Francique: armed with a knife. Family said “the police had been to the house hundreds of times before, I don’t know why they decided to kill him this time.”
Regis Korchinski: armed with a knife. Family accused police of being racist murderers and throwing sister from balcony, again sparking violent protests.
You are assuming I didn’t read the article. I did.
The hope is to gradually reduce the number of 911 mental health calls where an armed, uniformed officer is sent to respond when a social worker or nurse is better suited.
911 dispatchers and crisis workers will now determine wether or not to send officers, social workers or a nurse to mental health calls.

Instead of sending an officer a social worker or nurse will be sent.
Sorry to hear that. Mentally ill individuals in crisis are dangerous even when not armed. For some reason these are the people used as examples for sending in social workers instead of police.
Families are often the ones calling, they have been brainwashed into thinking that all cops have itchy trigger fingers and now they are going to lie or down play the threat.
I also don’t trust the judgement of the crisis workers. These positions are often filled by social justice activist types.
Here is an example of family calling 911 on a mentally individual, they knew he had a high capacity semi-auto shotgun but lied and said it was only a BB gun. A cop nearly died because of it.

How is this bitch not in jail?
I bet she is using some of that scammed $600k to pay a lawyer to keep her out of jail.
The brother was charged with armed home invasion as well. The uncle is a crack dealer charged with murder. A model family by leftist standards, right up there with George Floyd.
And none of this was ever reported, not a word.
These are the people who tricked Toronto into thinking the police were so racist they simply threw their sister off her balcony. The incited violent protests and netted $600k. The brother: Reece Korchinski, 22, of Markham has been charged with forcible confinement, two counts of robbery with a firearm, three counts of pointing a firearm, three counts of threatening death and assault with a weapon. https://www.cp24.com/mobile/news/photo-of-outstanding-suspect-released-after-gunpoint-robbery-at-fort-york-apartment-1.2880523 The uncle: Joseph Paquet, 48, now faces a charge of first-degree murder. https://www.toronto.com/news-story/9919236-suspect-faces-first-degree-murder-charge-in-slaying-of-toronto-man/

The only way this will ever work...
You've editorialized the article title without reading it. Social workers are NOT being sent to 911 calls.
You are assuming I didn’t read the article. I did.

That's my bad, I stand corrected.

CUPE should be protecting their members, but they are so woke they literally think this is a good idea.
This is exactly correct, it will save resources for police to handle more serious stuff. Looks great PR-wise too.
However, why the Star chose this cover photo makes no sense - Regis Korchinski is would've had the police involved with her either way.
