Things seem to be taking a turn for the worse in Canada.
Papers Please coming soon to eat out or shop
Mobility rights being restricted for unvaxxed (no flying even domestically, no inter provincial train travel)
Forced vaccination for health workers in Ontario and federal employees across Canada or your fired.
I lived temporarily in Red Deer and while it was cold as hell it was still free-er. Thinking about moving the family to Calgary. I live in downtown Toronto currently.
Added benefit that private Christian education is partially government funded. Costs 11k /yr in Toronto, can get similar for $3500 /yr in Alberta. With the push of gender crap on kids is the public system, private education has become a top priority for my kid.
Oh and real estate is still cheap in Alberta. Can still buy property even if only making 40 - 50k a year.
Jason Kenney had the most support out of all the Conservative premiers, he could have "made Alberta great again" to borrow a phrase.
Instead, Jason Kenney literally threw church pastors in prison for violating health orders while he himself broke the same health mandates during the same period. He let Deena Hinshaw run Alberta like a dictator. He has lost the support of most of the tradcon base. While he hasn't been as bad as premiers like Pallister or Ford, the Albertans who elected him had higher expectations of him, and he failed miserably. He is just another globalist sellout. (just like his buddy Stephen Harper)
Everything that gave Alberta the advantage (mainly low taxes and a robust oil/gas sector) is gone. Without oil and gas or at least some other viable resource industry, the economic future of Alberta is bleak. I am not sure why you think Notley would support oil sector growth in current year, the socialists have hitched their wagon to 'ending climate change' and it's been established that fossil fuels are the devil. To even suggest otherwise today is political suicide.
The demographics and attitudes of young people and normies isn't much different in Alberta. The public K-12 school system is just as left leaning, the universities are filled with the same purple haired communists and man hating Karens you would see in Ontario.
I guess the question to ask is why come to Alberta? Sure it's not as bad as Ontario TODAY, but it's only a matter of time before it is that bad and there's no Wildrose/separatist/any group large or organized enough to stop it.
There will be a split on the right for a vote and the NDP will win, because normies will vote for anyone who promises an handout, which they will want because thousands of them have lost their job/business due to the stupid shit going on since 2019.
I’ll take better TODAY.
And honestly, alberta left and right may still be in a cultural fight, but at least there’s still a fight both culturally and politically to be had. Compare that to Ontario where there is zero hope if you are conservative. In fact Ontario is edging closer to criminalizing harder social conservative views.
I figure Alberta buys me and my family another 20 years of somewhat normal living surrounded by many people who share my views. Additionally I get to send my kid to a private Christian school and I get to own a house and build wealth.
It sounds like a win to me short, mid and long term.
