Yeah, the scary thing is, this is nothing new. We've known all along that "transgenderism" among kids is socially contagious and rapid onset (meaning it's just a fad). But nobody's allowed to say it, or else they'll be labeled a "phobe".
The power that label has over society should be deeply disturbing to any thinking person. It's like being labeled a "counter-revolutionary" in Stalin's Russia or Mao's China. People will do anything to avoid the accusation of being a "phobe". They'll even chop off their own kids' genitalia if that's what it takes to appease the mob.
In the future, historians will talk about this period in history the same way we talk about the Salem witch trials, Stalin's reign of terror or Mao's cultural revolution. We'll serve as an example of how an entire society can go completely mad almost overnight.
