So I was in a Subway the other day trying to get a fucking footlong for lunch. In a big ass hurry. And this is what I see:
There’s a young Asian guy trying to order his sandwich, speaking English in a foreign accent, to a young Pakistani girl working at Subway, who also speaks broken English in a Pakistani/Indian accent.
Both of them barely speak English and can’t understand each other.
On top of that, they both have masks covering their faces, making it hard enough to hear anyone as it is. AND there’s a goddamn plastic screen separating them, that Subway installed cause “muh COVID”
Neither of them can communicate with each other. It’s just an exchange of mumbled foreign accents and “what??!!”
It took them 15 minutes to figure out what sandwich he wanted and how much he was supposed to pay for it.
This is the country we live in now. There are endless barriers, obstacles, passwords, rules, questions, security protocols, that impede activity to an almost halt. To the point where just ordering a sandwich is a long tedious process.
This is one of many reasons why I no longer eat at restaurants or fast food places. If they are going to put up these hurdles, I am morally obligated to boycott their businesses. Many of these places won't let you use the washroom, even if you buy something. Even before covid, I always had a policy - no washroom, no business.
The lesson is - if you have work, or you have to go somewhere, make meals at home beforehand, and pack a breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.
