Folks, our resident expert in fat Covid has little response. Also this: https://www.foxnews.com/health/face-masks-difference-spread-covid-scientific-review
Folks, they're quoting journalists here instead of reading the science. The article refers to this ongoing project: https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD006207.pub6/full
TLDR: The Fox journalist is emphasizing the result of one study out of 78, and 76 of the 78 don't apply to covid.
The project was started in 2009. When you went for your annual flu shot in the fall no one ever told you to wear a mask pre-covid. It's a different disease.
The current update of this project reviews 78 randomized control trials (RCTs) since 2009. "Many studies were conducted during non‐epidemic influenza periods. Several were conducted during the 2009 H1N1 influenza pandemic, and others in epidemic influenza seasons up to 2016. Therefore, many studies were conducted in the context of lower respiratory viral circulation and transmission compared to COVID‐19."
"We identified 78 relevant studies. They took place in low‐, middle‐, and high‐income countries worldwide: in hospitals, schools, homes, offices, childcare centres, and communities during non‐epidemic influenza periods, the global H1N1 influenza pandemic in 2009, epidemic influenza seasons up to 2016, and during the COVID‐19 pandemic. We identified five ongoing, unpublished studies; two of them evaluate masks in COVID‐19."
"The two RCTs of medical/surgical masks during the SARS‐CoV‐2 pandemic found uncertain evidence of a small or no effect (Abaluck 2022; Bundgaard 2021). The study by Abaluck 2022 found a statistically significant benefit of masks versus no masks for COVID‐like‐illness"
Abaluck 2022: "We found clear evidence that surgical masks are effective in reducing symptomatic seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2." https://www.science.org/doi/full/10.1126/science.abi9069#sec-2
Bundgaard 2021: "Limitation: Inconclusive results, missing data, variable adherence, patient-reported findings on home tests, no blinding, and no assessment of whether masks could decrease disease transmission from mask wearers to others." https://www.acpjournals.org/doi/full/10.7326/M20-6817
Not only do they give you apoxia and make your brain go to sleep, they also provide a hiding place for the ethetically challenged. In other words, masks are for the ugly. I await our resident chubby to attack either the article or the writer. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-11702641/Unattractive-people-likely-continue-wearing-Covid-face-masks-study-suggests.html
Don't get your medical advice from anonymous people on social media.
do get your medical advice from anonymous people on social media. They were able to sus out the bullshit and warn us years in advance of the actual results
