Rather than take the word of a teacher and writer presented by an anonymous troll on social media, you could follow the links and read the document yourself folks: https://www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/doi/10.1002/14651858.CD006207.pub6/full
If you did you would say to yourself "Yeah! I remember how mad I used to get every year in flu season when the doctors told me that I should wear a mask."
Or probably not, because your memory's OK and no doctor ever told you every year to wear a mask for protection against influenza.
And V&C1's link is all about influenza. As her document about 78 documents says: only "Two studies were conducted during the SARS‐CoV‐2 pandemic (Abaluck 2022; Bundgaard 2021)". You can follow the links in V&C1's document and read them. You know, do your own research.
And guess what? One of those studies is enthusiastic: "Surgical masks have higher filtration efficiency, are cheaper, are consistently worn, and are better supported by our evidence as tools to reduce COVID-19 cases." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9036942/
The other study was less enthusiastic, but they seemed to have trouble with their study: " Inconclusive results, missing data, variable adherence, patient-reported findings on home tests, no blinding, and no assessment of whether masks could decrease disease transmission from mask wearers to others." https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33205991/
Wow, a medical professional never ever suggested I wear a mask during flu season, and the numerous pre-covid studies that concluded that they were not effective would suggest any medical profession that did, was in fact a quack
Correct.
Careful. People who don't know you might think you believe flu and covid are the same. That would be embarrassing for you.
what makes covid so special that it doesn't evades the mask?
Lumping covid in with influenza is like saying "all birds are the same". Never mind that some don't fly.
Johns Hopkins, one of the top ten research universites in the US: "Can wearing a face mask prevent coronavirus from spreading? Yes. Since the coronavirus can spread through droplets and particles released into the air by speaking, singing, coughing or sneezing, masks are very helpful to prevent the virus from spreading in crowded indoor public places, especially those that contain a mixture of vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals." https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/health/conditions-and-diseases/coronavirus/coronavirus-face-masks-what-you-need-to-know
Mayo Clinic, ranked #1 on this list of "Best Hospitals for Adults 2022-23": "Can face masks help slow the spread of the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)? Yes." https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/coronavirus/in-depth/coronavirus-mask/art-20485449
Literally every major health institution in the world says masks slow the spread of covid when worn correctly. Even OP's Cochrane study on covid said: "Surgical masks have higher filtration efficiency, are cheaper, are consistently worn, and are better supported by our evidence as tools to reduce COVID-19 cases." https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9036942/
