Here's your redpill.
The CPC party brass reacted to Trudeau's defeat with a plan, they decided that politics had changed and they'd have to work to join Trudeau on the centre-left but offer something that's different from him after Canadians became fatigued with his shit.
Due to the strong majority for Trudeau's first term, the plan was to chip at his popularity in his first election and get him in the second and the leaders they selected for that were Andrew Scheer followed by Peter MacKay.
The party strategists have gone past their best-before-date. Big Tent conservatism may have worked for Harper, and as such Scheer was meant to tickle the pro-lifers' balls and make them think the struggle was worth it but the game has changed.
The idea essentially, is that Peter MacKay is hot like Trudeau and his Iranian beauty-queen wife seems ideal for the diversity but they don't know that they're throwing milquetoast at bombastic, and bombastic always wins that matchup.
It's actually a great example of how the CPC strategists don't understand diversity either, they really think that a white protestant who married an Elite Iranian Christian will go over well with the muslim crowd because she's brown in their opinion.
She may be a human rights activist, and trendy in all the right circles but I don't think she'll be as palatable in the GTA as the CPC brass might think.
The real redpill is that your vote doesn't even matter. This has been rigged for years now so do whatever you want. Vote a single vote card for Sloan. Pretend the debates didn't exist and pick Lewis first because black woman. Ignore O'Toole's upsetting links to the Muslim Brotherhood. It doesn't matter.
Nothing about this convention matters. It has been pre-decided, as was the one before it. Vote for whomever you want. It means nothing.
Missing an empty net once is forgivable, missing it twice in a row is outrageous. Hopefully they get new strategists for our election in 2022 but I doubt it.
Trudeau was a politically-connected chosen student even as early as his college years, which was at a time when national socialist policies were popular within the party and there was a real obsession in the Quebec wing of the party with the milk market crashing in the early 30s. He was talking about supply management even as he was being groomed for his career in politics.
Throughout his rise milk and prices were low due to overproduction as well so his policies of first subsidizing them, and then bringing in a level of federal control over the milk industry were insanely popular with the Quebec milk farmers at a time when England looked likely to join the EEC which would have crashed the milk industry for the second time in 40 years.
Supply management for milk is straight national socialism, it's a level of federalism that borders that's fascist adjacent at best. Dairy licenses, destroying the overproduction all in the name of keeping the price of dairy products high.
As such, the CPC is naturally opposed to it and a ton of rural MPs get involved in the party purely wanting to end supply management. It's cruel to the poor, restrictive to people who want to enter the industry both as a dairy producers, and for rural towns who want to set up factories to process milk.
It should be noted that the Quebec milk industry is made up from old school Quebecois blood with many prominent families. One would basically have to be mafia-adjacent(?) to be in the Quebec dairy industry and not to have a family tree that dates back to the days of the Lower Canada Rebellion. These families are powerful and politically connected.
We are talking about the kind of Quebecois families who grew rich in the early 1800s and opposed the Chateau Clique. This shit dates back to Papineau vs Molson.
They know all the right people, they have all the right connections and they're politically astute. The milk lobby is on par with the sugar lobby, they are one of the most dominant political lobbies in the country and as such any politician who opposes them or supply management will be ruthlessly attacked.
Had Maxime Bernier not decided to go after supply management he would almost certainly have been our Prime Minister right now. Instead the son of the man who ensured that their prosperity was guaranteed is enjoying his second terrible term. That's the power of the Quebec dairy industry.
You'll notice that none of the CPC candidates want anything to do with ending supply management for milk this time around.
Despite us having to give up a ton of ground in the USMCA trade pact. Despite the aluminum and steel tariffs. Despite it being completely in the government's interest to give the States what they want and to do away with supply management every single CPC candidate is totally fine with fucking over the rest of Canada so that the dairy farmers are assured of their profitability.
As a bonus, here's one of my favourite Pierre Trudeau quotes: "Well, at that time we didn't know about the holocaust."
