I'll never quite understand why the CFL thinks that it should follow the NFL in utterly shooting itself in the foot.
This reminds me a lot of the anthem affair. Colin Kaepernick kneeled for the anthem and while NFL fans rightfully howled with rage (as Kaepernick only did that after getting benched for Gabberd which made it seem disgustingly cynical) the CFL saw all of that, remembered that diversity is our strength and thought they could capitalize on the moment; not by presenting a proud alternative but by out-virtue signalling the NFL.
They encouraged their players to kneel for the Canadian National Anthem (which is infuriating as half of them are Americans), had everyone wear "diversity is our strength" shirts and...
I can't even believe I'm saying this. I can't even believe it happened to this very day. I saw it with my own eyes, I heard it with my own ears and I still can't believe it happened.
THE CFL HAD TORONTO-BASED "CHOIR! CHOIR! CHOIR!" featuring the hash-dealing, robe-wearing scumbags from Trailer Park boys announce that THEY WANTED TO LEAD THE NATION IN THE LARGEST SINGING OF OH CANADA IN HISTORY and then when they'd amply revved everyone IT TURNED OUT THEY'D REWRITTEN OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM!!!
That occurred at the Grey Cup. A Canadian tradition that's over a hundred years old.
It's truly mindblowing. The Redskins change their name and their fans are pissed, so the Eskimos have to change their name pissing what remains of their fanbase as well. Including the Innu who are addicted to watching them because "that team is named after us" (more people that you'd think.)
It will be a sad thing if the CFL never comes back. There's a good chance that it's done. But it would be even sadder if the last thing they did was change the name of 71-year old team for no reason other than because they wanted to be more SJW-y than the fucking NFL is these days.
I don't even think it's funny, it's just sad.
The team that has the most problems with bringing in fans is Toronto.
If you want a serious Canadian travel tip, then a Roughriders game in Regina is a fucking experience. They are hardcore about their team and the friendliest people in the country.
You will have the best time of your life and end up hammered.
A Stamps game is a similar experience.
The Argos though, and I say this as a man whose blood is double blue, is not the same experience. It feels plastic and commercial.
That's for a team that has the best facilities in the league, the largest potential fanbase and a long line of ex-players who are popular in the community.
Yet the head office is in Toronto and they're just as clueless and out-of-touch as the Argos, if not worse.
The CFL is the oldest sports league in Canadian history and it will be a sad day if it folds.
They need to rediscover their roots, and fast.
The Eskimos are a fan-owned team, and their fans aren't the people who turned it into Cuckmonton.
The CFL's desire to appeal to people who aren't fans, over the people who are die-hard might kill it.
I don't like it.

Say it isn't so, the heart of NDP country? CFL, football in general sucks anyways, rather watch paint dry.
