Can someone explain the reasoning?
Whenever I look up mask effectiveness, I find limited studies supporting the use of masks. Most studies that seem to suggest masks reduce transmission are studies done where the infected was coughing into the mask. If you're coughing you have covid-19 symptoms and shouldn't be out in the public...
What's wrong with this study?
"Disposable medical masks (also known as surgical masks) are loose-fitting devices that were designed to be worn by medical personnel to protect accidental contamination of patient wounds, and to protect the wearer against splashes or sprays of bodily fluids (36). There is limited evidence for their effectiveness in preventing influenza virus transmission either when worn by the infected person for source control or when worn by uninfected persons to reduce exposure. Our systematic review found no significant effect of face masks on transmission of laboratory-confirmed influenza."

Why are we being forced to wear masks?
Because of the "what if it does help and we didn't try" line of reasoning, it's just here to makes people feel safe...
It's about as useful as your underwear preventing farts from escaping.
I thought we were supposed to listen to science?
