You're exactly right. If I were to base my only opinions of what life is like in the city I live in (Winnipeg), I'd think our downtown is safe, our crappy neighbourhoods are where you want to raise kids, that everyone is wearing masks (we have less than 10 active cases inside the city), and that our current provincial government that won in a landslide had zero support.
Reddit is overwhelmingly un, or underemployed losers without real life social circles, so they come to the only place where they can get any amount of attention...reddit.
It's a bubble, and the people who constantly go there think it's representative of reality.
