LMFAO @0:57 she said "we're not asking for special treatment" then proceeds to ask for special treatment.
Well, no shit. This international student scam should have never been allowed to happen. The government ripping off Canadians is one thing, we're used to it but the government ripping off the people of the world is another thing entirely.
So far I've met, or talked to 5 or 6 Indians who don't even know how fucked they are because the government lied to them. They've saved up enough to come here, pay for maybe a year of school and 8 months in a rooming house and if they can score a minimum wage job they may even get a chance to eat something too.
All of this seems great until you hear the courses they're taking. It's all dead-end shit that they've been sold by a salesman posing as an international student advisor.
1-year certificates in marketing, digital communications, sports management, interior design, human resources and worse. Just ridiculous classes for someone who wants to immigrate and doesn't know the culture.
They're being sold on taking the classes that most Canadians avoid because they know that it won't lead to a job.
Of course they're graduating, not being able to find employment and having to return to their countries as penniless failures. Of course they're pissed about it, and trying to fix the situation.
Just to sponsor someone as an employer, you have to hire them, fill out a bunch of paperwork then send in off to the government for approval, and that approval will take 8-12 weeks.
That's a lot of hoops for an employee who doesn't know the culture, may not have great language skills and to make matters worse, firing them will make you feel like garbage.
Even interviewing them for a garbage position makes you feel like shit. I once interviewed for a team that was doing outbound calling for duct cleaning; even the most desperate Canadian barely gives a shit about such a job but the I'd have to deal with international students whose study terms were up. They'd always be dressed their best, were positive about the role, tried their best to impress you and were very nervous about getting rejected.
They'd get rejected of course. The job was only for a 6 week contract, 6 hours a day with no breaks, minimum wage, work weekends and holidays (not that the applicants were told that, of course.)
You have to feel bad for them. They shouldn't be allowed to immigrate, but our government and colleges shouldn't be taking advantage of them.
It's gross and un-Canadian. They have a right to be pissed.
Even when my old ass was in University I heard a few Indians say some things to profs about how much Canada promotes immigrating to Canada in that country.
They make it sound like a paradise with infinite economic opportunities.
The immigration industry in this country is shocking and it used to be so good.
My parents came here via the immigration industry. They heard about a need, took some courses, moved into an immigration-company rented apartment building and did very well for themselves.
What happened to that? Our country's immigration policy went from "let's entice people from all over the UK who are sick of the class system and are willing to freeze their dicks off for a chance to succeed" to "let's trick half the 3rd world into saving up, coming here, living terribly, and blowing their life savings with the honest ones leaving out of failure and the dishonest ones staying in a country where they can't work legally."
No wonder we're seeing gangs.
It's an utter disgrace and I don't see the point. To prop up useless college programs that don't lead to jobs for even the Canadians who take them? To keep the kind of slumlord who would cram 20 people into a 2 bedroom house and charge them all $400 a month for the privilege in business?
It's predatory and it needs to stop.
(Also, fuck John McCallum. Fucking traitor.)
Hey don't knock slumlords, I just rented out an apartment to a group of Koreans, they would be homeless without me.
Lol, wait until you find out just how much those people love to deep-fry.
You're going to be scraping up so much grease. All surfaces, an inch-thick on top of the kitchen cabinets, fucking everywhere.
Hope you're not an anti-masker because you'll definitely want a mask for the clean-up.
Never rent to people who would be homeless without you, lol.
“Without jobs, students can’t apply for permanent residence.”
Ya no fucking shit. Go the fuck back to your country. Implying it’s impossible to get jobs here to get a permanent residence, how about the people who can’t go to another country to get a job.
Since when do you pull some fucking Hail Mary to live in another country. Do your fucking research god it’s so pathetic. When does any country owe an immigrant anything when the very country is in a shithole position
I don't mind the ones that study hard and try to adapt to Canadian life after paying for some education here.
I would definitely take them over 3rd world refugees, or rich Chinese/Middle Easterns who buy a visa and don't give two fucks about Canada or our values or customs.
However definitely gotta get rid of those certificate mill colleges that are 75%+ Indian. They don't care about adapting to live here, they are just gaming the system.
"The students say the requirements for graduates to gain permanent residency in Canada are too strict, and economic disruption from the COVID-19 crisis has made those requirements essentially impossible to meet."
That's a shame. I guess you have to go home then.
