They implemented a system to just give out thousands of dollars to anyone who applied.
Of course the junkies were going to scam the system and overdose like crazy. That goes without saying.
I'm just amazed at the response from our government. "Why don't we just say fuck it and set up safe injection sites with a safe supply of free drugs?"
As we all know from pot legalization, that just means the government is going to make really shitty heroin available to a population of junkies who have gotten to love fentanyl-laced heroin, because it's significantly stronger.
Which means that they'll just use government heroin to tide themselves over when they're sick rather than evaluating their life and going to rehab.
Great plan.
As an aside I'm amazed that the health units still think that it's people doing crystal meth that's been laced with fentanyl that's causing those overdoses. I once got in an argument with some dick on reddit who worked in a health unit and was assuring me that no natives were injecting speedballs of fentanyl and crystal meth when I'd seen it with my own eyes.
No one laces crystal meth with fentanyl. Crystal meth is dirt cheap, plentiful and mixing in a downer would make it shittier, not better.
However, the practice of mixing a little coke into a shot to keep from nodding out (causing junkies to overdose once the coke left their system 20 minutes later) has been supplanted by mixing a little meth into a shot which lasts even longer than the heroin high, keeps it active and makes the user feel functional and aggressive.
It is a fucking dangerous mix, and a guaranteed recipe for overdoses.
When I look a Hadju's record I note that her most significant accomplishment is working in a drug public health unit in Thunder Bay and while she's lauded for her efforts there, the opioid problem got far worse. That's how poor our government performs when it comes to drugs.
The public health units still haven't figured out that they've got a nightmare on their hands and they don't understand a thing about the problem that they're paid good money to tackle.
No wonder there's so many fucking junkies these days.
I don't think skilled professionals want the job, especially not under Trudy.
Their options are either continue doing their life's work for a handsome salary or get into government where they'll be surrounded by slimeballs, have to spend an awful lot of time with sub 90 IQ journalists, and on top of that they have to be an MP which means dealing with constituents (and for the most part, the constituents they deal with will be the most unpleasant, stupid, and insane people in their riding.)
On top of all that, they have to be a yes-man to the most privileged man in Canada, a total fuck-up who is only in his positions because he's a part of a political legacy dating back to the most perfidious traitor in the history of Canada?
I have no illusions as to why the government doesn't attract the best in this nation, I have no illusions about that at all.
Absolutely. Politicians desperately cling to their posts because it’s the best paying job they will ever have. Any reasonably competent person will never leave private sector and deal with the government shit show for an ok salary compared to their skill set.
