Your "hook" when you first posted (on Reddit) was implying you were going to discuss the problems in retirement homes. Based on the many issues over the last year with covid, the seniors who died due to neglect in LTC, the government's lack of attention to the problem and the need for advocacy for elders, people were interested in what you had to say. Many are faced with either getting to the age of needing assistance, or have parents requiring placement somewhere and need to have vital information on the MAJOR problems in these places, not whether there are personality issues or empty coffee pots. Your story is really a personal rant on how you are being treated, and allowing yourself to be treated, which of course is important to you. But it isn't discussing the problem of senior advocacy and health and safety issues, which many thought you were going to address. I wish you the best and hope you are able to move on from your current living environment to something more suitable and less stressful.

I'm sorry, I just cannot understand why someone would willingly allow themselves to not be fed for 8 days and do nothing about it (assuming you had the resources to do so). A call to EMS, police or something to get someone's attention would certainly escalate what could have ended up a life-and-death situation.

With all due respect, I think there is more to this than is being stated. The issues you bring forward are small, and can happen anywhere (coffee pot being empty, beer empties, a door opener breaking), but if you are in a circumstance where things are hyper-focused on, I can see how they become large issues to you and can fill your days.

I am interested in what you have to say, but I think you would do well to focus specifically on health and safety issues that could contribute to serious failures in the care of the people in the home. You would get more attention from the outside world and anyone who can advocate for you. They won't be too interested in helping if you are focused on the coffee pot being empty. Now ... 8 days without food ... that is health unit and media worthy situation and should have been dealt with swiftly (on day one).

No, of course not. I just cannot believe that anyone would go 8 days without food and not do anything about it. I can see you are struggling there, but are capable of bringing these important things to the internet, so can't understand why you didn't advocate for yourself at that point. I have been in a similar situation myself (rehab bed in care home) and can understand a feeling of helplessness or frustration if this is what is happening.

I sympathize if you are having problems, but some of it seems hard to believe. Are you saying you went 3 days one time, and 8 days another without any food WHATSOEVER? And I don't mean no food service, you actually had zero edible items in your room? And you didn't call at each mealtime and ask where your food was? I understand being confined due to covid, but how would it be you wouldn't call someone for food since you couldn't go out? As a type 2 diabetic myself, I would be passed out without food at some point, didn't you feel unwell and need the RN? I'm having a hard time understanding this, but would like to know if this type of treatment is the norm.
