Oh man, where to start? Perhaps at the beginning...

-Texas was scratched out and fought over by settlers looking to make something of their own out of the great frontier. This is decidedly very American in general, but the way early Texans had to bootstrap their own defense while trying to raise farm and family made it pretty unique, and the "Come And Take It" attitude is still very much alive.

-Texans love good food and good manners, but aren't afraid to thump your skull if you step out of line. Very soy free.

-Speaking of food, the BBQ is the best in the country. Known for dry rub, mesquite smoked, and in particular brisket. The idea is that if you have to slather your meat in sauce then you either have poor meat quality or you don't know how to BBQ correctly. Brisket is traditionally very tough and dry (think stews and pot roast), so if you're able to turn that into delicious, smoky, moist BBQ then you're doing something right. Apart from that, TexMex (Americanized Mexican) is great all over the state.

-We have our own power grid, and we have one of two oil refinery locations in the US. If shit really went down, then Texas could realistically stand on its own. Did I mention "Come And Take It"?

-Despite the 10 gallon hat caricature, Texas has the 4th largest (Houston), 7th largest (San Antonio), 9th largest (Dallas), and 13th largest (Austin) cities in the country.

-Lots of other stuff. Come on down and see for yourself.
