The argument has never been that cloth masks protect you in any significant way, in fact that's the primary reason why masks weren't initially recommended because healthcare professionals were concerned about giving people a false sense of security by recommending masks leading to people ignoring other important recommendations like social distancing.
To be clear, the only way you can come to the conclusion you appear to have is to effectively believe there's an international conspiracy to for some unknowable reason undermine people's blood oxygen levels (something that isn't a concern unless you're wearing N95 style masks that actually conform to your face and even with those masks you have to wear them for an extended period before your blood oxygen levels are significantly affected.
